Since 1923, the company has a collection of vehicles. To mark the company's 50th anniversary, Daimler-Benz AG set up the first museum at the Untertürkheim plant in 1936, which has since been expanded several times. According to the "Guide to the Untertürkheim Museum of Daimler-Benz AG," eighteen Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft vehicles, nine Benz cars, and six Mercedes-Benz automobiles were on display in 1938. In addition, there were nineteen engines (starting engines, automobile, aircraft and boat engines), three rail vehicles, a replica of the riding carriage and the Daimler motorboat "Marie" from 1888. In 1949, new themes were added. Thus, the stock of the racing department with vehicles, documents and other material passed to the historical collection. Over the next few years, the collection grew and the number of visitors increased steadily.
