Harvest and local festival in Bad Sooden-Allendorf

August 15 - August 19

The whole town is festively decorated with harvest crowns, wreaths, garlands, blue and red bunting and other handmade decorations that give the half-timbered houses a special sparkle. All the residents celebrate these days in the traditional way, just as they did in 1858: The harvest festival begins on Friday evening with the garland-wrapping and street party in the old town of Allendorf.

In the days that follow, parades and music dominate the cityscape around the market square and on the fairground. The most important symbols are the harvest wreath and harvest crown with their bearers and maidens of honor.

Also the triolet dancing is just as much a part of the traditional festival program as the Spanish fricco meal: The stew made from pork, beef, onions and potatoes is eaten in almost all households after church on Sunday lunchtime to fortify for the big parade. On Monday morning, breakfast is served together in the marquee and on Tuesday the festival ends with a big firework display.

The full program can be viewed in due course at https://www.erntefest.de/.

This event takes place at the Franzrasen motorhome parking area. Alternative sites for motorhomes are available.
